The Blueing

a poem after Nick Montfort's The Purpling
re-mixed by students of Non-Linear Narratives & Multi-Media Poetics
a Quebec Writers' Federation Workshop led by J. R. Carpenter, March 28, 2009

"Cast the eyes somewhere else," they said. "When there's too much red you need to rejuvenate, find blue. Find something blue and draw it in through the eyes. Fill your ears with blue notes — only blue-notes. A flugelhorn is best, or a sousaphone if you can find one. But be patient; these things take time. Get yourself out to the pawn shops, Dig around in the want ads. Find Blue. Don't quit. It's question of limitation, avoiding the subversive colours, rejecting all that's unwholesome. There are men in this place that want to hurt you. Remember that. Find blue. Blue is your only salvation: blue cars, blue movies — every little bit helps! But avoid the non-blue. Off-white is OK. Purple still works but it's deprecated. Yellow and red should be summarily rejected. Put your money on blue. Blue works. Trust me.
