Nails and hair are places to store small hard dry things which I am finished thinking about. There's little chance of putting something there that I'm not done with as those thoughts still in motion, that speech that has yet to be formed, those memories I have not yet remembered, these things are too big and lumpy and wet to fit into nails and hair. This is a slightly more precious place for storage than the bowels as excrement, once excreted, has no redeeming qualities, no usefulness, no fond memories, no second chance. Hair and nails can be saved. Snipped and clipped they are microfilm of information on the specific body which cannot be read by the eye, but saved all the same, like the climate controlled stomachs of libraries containing rare books. |
