An artist friend explained to me one day, looking across the Basin to Avonport, that he was making a drawing of a Dike Barn, which was a maintenance shed, and not a barn full of dykes. His wife explained to me the delicate nature of that distinction. And then my whole perception of things slid slightly further to the left, making a few new inches in the Rockies perhaps, or backing dangerously toward the San Andreas Fault.
